Huafon Group’s Covation Biomaterials LLC Launches Sorona Elasterell-P Fiber, Its First Biobased Bicomponent Elastic Fiber Manufactured in the U.S.

Recently, Covation Biomaterials LLC (Shanghai Huafon Ruixun Biomaterials Co., Ltd., referred to as CovationBio), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huafon Group, has officially launched Sorona elasterell-p fiber.

Marking the company’s first bicomponent biobased elastic fiber produced onshore in the United States, the product is made from partially biobased Sorona polymer. It delivers consistent elasticity and long-lasting shape retention to fabrics without blending with spandex. Fabrics made with this fiber resist sagging and deformation even after repeated wear and washing cycles.

Targeted primarily at activewear and workwear textiles, the new fiber addresses market demand for high-resilience and highly durable fabrics. Thanks to its biobased composition, it also enables apparel brands to cut the carbon footprint of their end products.

Sorona polymer boasts a 25-year commercial track record. Containing 37% biobased content, it features softness, skin-friendliness, breathability and wrinkle resistance. It can be easily blended with natural fibers including cotton, wool and linen, and has wide applications across apparel and home textiles.

Steven Ackerman, CEO of CovationBio, commented that as the company’s first proprietary branded fiber product, the new offering combines the high-performance and sustainable merits of Sorona material with much-sought elastic textile solutions, further expanding the portfolio of biobased raw materials for the textile industry.

Established in Newark, Delaware in 2022, CovationBio manages the existing Sorona product lineup while advancing new material research and development. The firm plans to commercially launch Xatryx biobased polytetramethylene ether glycol (bioPTMEG), an all-new biobased material, in 2026.
